During my journeys through South America I have visited 36 towns/cities in Ecuador. In Perú, I visited 48; in Chile, only five; and in Argentina, I visited 16. In Uruguay, I visited five, and in Brazil, three. And in Paraguay I have visited 26. In Colombia I've visited 85. That's 224 towns/cities in South America.

I'm in Barranca, Perú.

Looks like I'm playing sax again!

I have no idea what make or model that car is.

Hi! So what's new here? Let's see. I have been to at least 5 schools to ask about working for them as an English teacher, so far I get responses like "We will talk to the kids' parents and find out how many want lessons" or "We will talk to the administrators". Almost every school here has at least one English teacher teaching English classes. But what I have learned is that they are all Colombians who know English only well enough to teach it, and not fluent in the language.

Jorge Borjas - scammer, liar, cheater

Aug 14, 2013

The street at night from the eighteenth floor.

Jorge Borjas, the man who was supposed to be working with me to start an English school here in Soledad, is nothing more than a liar, a scammer no different from the ones in Nigeria or Ghana or many other countries, and a cheat. I could use much more 'colorful' language but I won't here.

Jorge Borjas - he supposedly added me to the legal papers making me 49% owner of his company and we were to open an English school. I've never seen such papers with my name on them, so I don't believe that ever happened.

Billiards, Football and another strike

July 5, 2013

These two and 3 or 4 more live in a sports park here in Barranquilla.

First off, last week I mentioned a bit about many roadside bars, restaurants and billiards places. Billiards if very popular here in Colombia. There are many, many billiards places all over the city, in just about every neighborhood. They may have from 2 billiards tables on up to a dozen or more. Most are just a few tables and a refrigerator for beer. Many of the roadside bars, if you can call them a bar, are just a small building, often no bigger than a typical American backyard shed, and some tables and chairs outside under an awning. The small building is just for storing the beer.

Apartment issues, school progress

A lovely tree in silhouette, a type of palm?, along the street in Barranqui

I should try to do a better job of remembering some of the things that happen day to day. One evening I was out with George and his family, we walked a few blocks away to eat dinner at a small roadside food stand. Very good papas and empanadas. While we were just ordering our food I something drop out of the tree above us. Just caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye. It rolled under the cart so I didn't know what it was. George told me is was a mango.
