During my journeys through South America I have visited 36 towns/cities in Ecuador. In Perú, I visited 48; in Chile, only five; and in Argentina, I visited 16. In Uruguay, I visited five, and in Brazil, three. And in Paraguay I have visited 26. In Colombia I've visited 85. That's 224 towns/cities in South America.

I'm in Barranca, Perú.

Santa Marta, sunburn, new apartment

June 13, 2013

A street in Santa Marta, the classic architecture includes many balconys.

Last sunday I visited a small tourist city about an hour bus ride away - Santa Marta. It's southeast of Barranquilla. The drive there takes you thru the playa, I guess that would be the same as a delta, then along the beach and finally into Santa Marta. There is a big mountain range on one side and the Caribean on the other side. I didn't really see much of the city itself as we spent our time at the beach.

My first week in Barranquilla

June 6, 2013

A common site in Barranquilla - plants two of the same trees but with diffe

I moved out of the hotel in downtown to a less expensive hotel on the south side of town. The area is called Soledad. The hotel here is much cheaper.

This week has been mostly exploring and learning the area, where the shopping centers are, etc.

In Barranquilla

June 3, 2013

This is a common site - a horse/mule drawn cart of fruits and vegies.

I know I should have posted here a few days ago but haven´t had a very good time with internet cafe´s and the computers in them. I don´t have my computer here, as it was going to be shipped ocean freight with some other stuff, including my sax, but that wasn´t possible. Then I checked in to shipping air freight but that was prhibitively expensive (between $6000 and $7000). So I have no computer yet and am relying on internet cafe´s.

Rain, Rain! Go Away!

May 29, 2013

Me (Chip), David, and Austin the day before I left the USA.

I arrived in Seattle on the 21st to a very cold, very wet welcoming. Rained off and on all through the day. Probably wouldn't have been so bad except I don't have a jacket, or a coat, being from Tucson those are rarely needed. So for this past week it has rained every day, in every city I've been to - Seattle, Lynnwood, Lake Stevens, Darrington, Leavenworth, Cashmere, Yakima, Prosser, Kennewick and Ocean Shores. Whew!

In Washington state now

Cheryl on a ferry in March 2006.

I arrived in Seattle on the 21st to a cloudy, wet, and quite cold day. Was quite a shock from the near 100 degrees in Tucson. And I have no jacket with me. I packed my jacket in one of the boxes of stuff I would ship to Colombia, and I wasn't expecting Seattle to be soooooo cold. It is almost June after all. Anyway, here I am, at Patti and Chad's house. Patti is Cheryls youngest sister.
