San Luis, Argentina, was founded in 1594. That original establishment was abandoned after some years but the town was reestablished in 1632 with the name San Luis de Loyola Nueva Medina de RÃo Seco. The city has a population of around 170,000 and about a half-dozen museums. The town church is of the NeoClassical style and was built in the 1880s, as was the Governor's Executive Building, which was built in the French renaissance style. There are some colonial homes still in use throughout the city.
The climate of San Luis varies from average summertime highs of around 30-32° C (87-90° F) in December and January to the winter average daily highs of around around 5° C (41° F) in June and July. They have on rare occasions recieved snow.
This town has fewer trees compared to San Rafael but if I were to choose one over the other I would choose San Luis. It is quieter than San Rafael, though Mendoza, a much larger city, is quieter than both of those towns. The reason appears to be the lack of small-engine motorcycles in Mendoza. Those things are ridiculously noisy and are more common in the smaller towns. San Luis has a street that angles off from the Plaza Pringles that has a wide center area that is loaded with dining tables from the many restaurants and bars that line both sides of several blocks of the street. San Luis has a couple of nice plazas, as well. I just found it a bit more to my liking than San Rafael. But, I still won't consider living in this part of the country, again, as I mentioned before, the winters are simply too cold for my bones.
I used to teach English as a foreign language in Barranquilla, Colombia. Now I'm retired and traveling throughout South America.
I'm from Kennewick, Washington, USA. In my previous life, as I call it, I was an IT guy, systems administrator, computer tech, as well as a shipping/receiving guy and also worked as a merchandising guy in a RV/Camping store.
